Methodology — how every number is counted

What we collect

Public Instagram posts and reels carrying movement hashtags (currently tracked: #cjpprotest, #sonamwangchuk, #cjp, #jantarmantar, #cockroachjantaparty, #chalosansad, #jantarmantarprotest, #studentprotest, #abhijeetdipke, #protest, #delhipolice, #delhi, #breakingnews, #delhiprotest, #india), public posts from the movement's official accounts, and posts our operator manually submits after seeing them. Collection runs every 15 minutes through Apify, a commercial scraping service reading the same public pages any logged-out visitor can see. We collect no private accounts, no DMs, and no Stories — Stories are technically invisible to outside observers, which is why every number here is a floor.

What each number means

• Citizens have posted publicly — distinct public accounts that published at least one tracked post since 2026-07-13. Each is one real, checkable account; the list is not published to protect participants.
• Views / likes / comments — the numbers Instagram itself displays on those public posts, recorded at each collection pass. We cannot see "reach"; nobody outside Instagram can.
• Follower curve — the follower count Instagram publicly reports for the movement's own accounts, snapshotted each cycle. Verifiable by opening the profile.
• Cities — a post's geotag when present, otherwise a city named in the post. Attention, not a census.
• On-ground signal — unique accounts whose posts are geotagged at Jantar Mantar or use on-the-ground language ("live from", "पहुंच गए"). It is a proxy. It is never a crowd count. For crowd sizes we show press-reported figures with attribution, kept strictly separate from our counts.

What this site cannot claim

• It cannot count Stories, private accounts, WhatsApp, or anyone watching without posting — the overwhelming majority. Floors, not totals.
• It cannot verify that a poster was physically present anywhere.
• Hashtag collection returns a recent sample, not a guaranteed complete census of every public post; our counts can only undercount, not overcount, because every counted post is a real, existing public post.
• Engagement counts can include inauthentic activity; we report what the platform reports.

Community submissions

Anyone may submit links, accounts, or hashtags for inclusion. Submissions are verified before anything is counted: a submitted link is only counted after the post itself checks out as movement content; a submitted hashtag is only tracked after a sampling probe shows its posts belong to this movement (with a strict daily admission cap); submitted accounts get a one-time relevance-filtered pull, never standing surveillance. Ambiguous submissions wait for a human, and every accept/reject decision is logged. This site deliberately has no presence check-in, no registration, and no reader tracking: a "log yourself present" feature would create the very list of protesters this site promises cannot exist. Being counted here is always an act of public posting — consent by publication, nothing else.

Protecting people

No individual is named, linked, or listed anywhere on this site except the movement's own public accounts. Published data files contain aggregates only. This site must never function as a list of protesters, and it is built so it cannot.

Verify or mirror

Every dataset behind every chart is downloadable and regenerated each cycle. Fork it, mirror it, recompute it. A record that many people hold cannot be quietly erased.
